Matt Brown, whose guilty plea was accepted by the Magistrate Judge, was originally scheduled to hear his sentence on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 10:30am. However, he will now be sentenced at the end of April.

Activities to date regarding the case

On January 9, 2025, he pleaded guilty to the 2 charges filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division. The two charges are 1) willful failure to pay trust fund taxes and 2) aiding and assisting in the filing of false tax returns.

On February 3, his guilty plea was accepted by the Magistrate Judge with his sentencing scheduled for 4/8/2025.

However, on February 19, Mr. Brown’s attorney, Jeffrey Neiman, submitted a motion to Continue Sentencing Hearing.

The rationale provided was “undersigned counsel has been invited to speak at the 25th Annual U.S. and Europe Tax Practice Trends Conference in the Netherlands on April 10, 2025. In order to do so, however, counsel will need to travel overseas several days earlier from Ft. Lauderdale, which would likely conflict with Mr. Brown’s sentencing.”

The US Attorney did not oppose the request.

On February 24, 2025, Judge Aileen Cannon granted the request.

Sentencing Scheduled for 4/24/2025 at 11:30am

Sentencing is now scheduled for Thursday April 25, 2025, at 11:30am in the Fort Pierce Division of U.S. District Court.

Court is open to the public. Should you choose to attend, please note that no cell phones, smart watches, or computers are permitted in a federal courthouse. If you attempt to enter with any of these items, you will be denied entrance.

As a reminder, if you have been personally impacted by the activities of Mr. Brown, you can reach out to the Department of Treasury to advise them of your experience.
